What are Survival Skills and Why should I learn them ?

Survival skills are techniques that a person may use in order to sustain life in any type of natural environment or built environment. These techniques are meant to provide basic necessities for human life which include waterfood, and shelter. The skills also support proper knowledge and interactions with animals and plants to promote the sustaining of life over a period of time. Survival skills are often associated with the need to survive in a disaster situation. Survival skills are often basic ideas and abilities that the ancients invented and used themselves for thousands of years. Outdoor activities such as hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, fishing, and hunting all require basic wilderness survival skills, especially in handling emergency situations. Bushcraft and primitive living are most often self-implemented, but require many of the same skills. The Need        

We all live in our respective comfort zones and do not anticipate actions to be taken in case things do not go as planned. This is where knowing Survival Skills helps. Every now and then we hear people losing their precious lives in floods, Forest fires, Treks, Lightening Strikes, sometimes getting lost on the trek, and other times simply due to extreme cold or harsh weather. We may encounter wild animals or run out of supplies. We may have to cross a fast-moving stream in mountains or rescue someone trapped. Knowing and gaining some proficiency in Survival Skills will give you the confidence to be alive another day.

The program

This is a day program aimed at anyone who had no or very little experience in outdoor adversities. This will be immensely useful for serious trekkers or anyone who has a love for the outdoors. You will enjoy nature and at the same time build up your awareness of Survival in general. In a fun way, you will learn from our experts and also connect to nature. You will also learn few basic skills which are a must for everyone to know to make use of the resources at hand.

The Program will commence at 9 am and conclude by 6 pm. It will be conducted at our campsite near the Chilkur area closer to Gandipet Lake. 

You can call this a crash course on wilderness survival. You will learn how to live off the land. You will learn raw skills to create basic necessities for your life in this outdoor program. Primarily you will be taught skills to make fire, food, water, and shelter. You will be taught how to make and use a knife and some skills with ropes. This includes knowledge of knots and lashing. As also making your own cordage with the help of natural materials. Later in the day, you will learn about fire types and different techniques to make fire. 

Am I Prepared?

Out on a trek, you get separated from the group. Your backpack fell down the ravines? Are you prepared? It is getting dark, temperatures are dropping, Wild animals growling. Are you prepared? It has been two days and no rescue at sight. Are you prepared? More than two days in the wilderness, all by yourself. What next? or any other unforeseen contingency, manmade or natural will require you to understand the basics, how to lay down prioritize and what action should be taken to be alive

Let's equip you with the basic knowledge of what to do. How to find directions? Plan a route? How to plan to signal for rescue? How to navigate and find directions and much more.

Let us start with the Psychology of Survival and fear. Teach you how to plan and create a quick shelter. Learn some construction skills, know a few basic knots, and make your own cordage if required. Lashings are essential and we will teach you how to do it the right way.

In this session learn some practical things about food. What to eat and what to avoid. How to do wilderness cooking without any utensils. Learn about fire, fire types, and how to make a fire. Getting the fire going even in rainy weather and much more.

Not just mental robustness, you will need skills for little long-term survival. How to move, cross streams and obstacles, indulge in foraging, sourcing, and purifying water, self-defense, and so on. Let us learn.

Survival is a state of mind and practicing these Skills tunes your mind to be prepared in any emergency, Man-made or Natural. This also gives you an opportunity to break your routine and destress in nature. Of course, we make friends with like-minded individuals too.

In view of the current situation, we are restricting the number of participants in each batch. Reservation of slots is on a first-come basis. All pandemic norms will be followed.

We will create temporary shelters and pitch a few tents for your personal belongings and just in case it rains. Toilets will be there for your convenience.

  • We cater for First Aid/Tea/Refreshments/Lunch/Drinking Water and Field Toilets for this day's workshop.

  • Kindly reach the venue latest by 0845 h.

  • Own transport to reach the venue. The exact location will be shared with the confirmed participants. Carpooling may also work once we create a temporary WhatsApp group for this workshop a few days before the workshop. Adequate safe parking will be made available

  • Wearing shoes is mandatory being an outdoor workshop.

  • Please carry Rain capes/Umbrellas in case it rains. Only in case of prediction of heavy rain will this workshop be postponed

  • The registration fee is non-refundable but can be adjusted against our future programs if intimated at least 3 days in advance. 

  • We expect you to be polite and respectful in dealing with fellow participants. The organizers reserve the right to admission to this program and you may be asked to leave in case given instructions have not been adhered to.

  • Strictly no littering in the area. This is an eco-friendly workshop.
